Adaptability by Design is now Open for Business!!!
A Chicago native I've been blessed with a taste of wanderlust and have lived in the Miami and Bay Areas on both Coasts as well as in the Sedona area of Arizona. Now I live in Bella Vista in the NW Corner of Arkansas.
Not too surprisingly, traveling is a passion and I've visited areas of North and South American and have been to several countries in Europe. I love being able to get off the beaten path and connect with the locals. Finding out-of-the-way places to eat and explore feeds my soul.
Doing art, and collecting it, is another passion. In fact, I can actually recall when my mom brought home finger paints for me to try--that was fun! I always seemed to have grammar school drawings taped on the walls, and years later I was blessed to have a college project in a display case that was in a prominent location.
Helping others helps us feel good about ourselves and, to me, means being involved in a variety of volunteer projects. I've worked with Cure MS Foundation, and helped with two different equine therapy programs in the Chicago suburbs as well as the Sedona area. Speaking of horses, I just got a new best friend of the equine persuasion and spending time with her out in nature is also brings me pleasure. There's nothing like a ride out in the fresh air with the sunshine on your face to know you are blessed!
Being able to choose exactly the right color combination, or contrast, is an inborn talent. Determining the placement of walls, deciding on where the plumbing and electrical components best serve the space, choosing all the materials, and then putting on the finishing touches on to personalize the room -- it's what I love best about being a designer!
Numerous positions I held working in the retail construction industry involved many design aspects of my projects. As a Construction Coordinator, I was in charge of all the interior contracts which entailed ensuring adherence to architectural specifications for paint, flooring, light fixtures, mill work, furniture, equipment, decorative accents, etc.. I also ensured every fixture for merchandising was in its right place!
Later when I was an Assistant Project Manager on a huge mall remodeling job in San Jose, CA, I started design classes. The architect on the project took me under her wing, and I assisted in every decision-making aspect of the extensive interior, as well as exterior, work. I am indebted to her for allowing me to co-create her vision of the project.
After completing my degree I worked for a small design/build company where I designed bathrooms for one of our salesmen to add to the kitchen designs done by a cabinet company for our remodeling projects. Recently, I learned the kitchen cabinet business myself utilizing 20/20 design software. I am always open to learning about new programs, products and methods.
Serving my community by sharing my experience and knowledge to allow for more balance and harmony in your home or office is my intention. Thank you in advance for the opportunity to co-create with you!
